It's common to let the engine(s) cool down for a few minutes after landing. Some machines have a brake that lets the pilot slow the main rotor down. |

Yes, you do the same thing with cars after giving them a good sustained thrashing, let them idle for a little while, otherwise you risk localised overheating as the coolant is no longer circulating.
