Cubana Airlines Flight 972 Plane Crash in Havana
Cubana Airlines Flight 972 experienced a catastrophic crash shortly after takeoff from José Martí International Airport in Havana, Cuba. This tragic incident has caused considerable loss of life and raised serious concerns about aviation safety standards in the country. Flight 972, operated by Cuba's national airline, Cubana de Aviación, was en route to Holguín when it went down. The aircraft, a Boeing 737, was carrying passengers and crew, many of whom were Cuban nationals, along with international travelers. The crash site, located near the airport, quickly became the focus of intense rescue and recovery efforts. Eyewitness reports describe a rapid descent of the aircraft immediately after takeoff, followed by a significant impact and fire. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, but the severity of the crash led to a high number of fatalities and few survivors. This accident is among the deadliest in Cuban aviation history and has prompted a review of Cubana Airlines' fleet and maintenance practices. The airline, which has faced challenges such as aging aircraft and parts shortages due to economic constraints, has been under scrutiny for its safety record. |

Doesn't matter which airline it is, if you're flying a 38 year old 737, you're just asking for trouble.

Apparently there were a group of priests on the plane. Reminds me of Hannibal Lecter and his penchant for collecting news stories concerning Church roof collapses which killed the congregation. To die in a plane crash must be horrific. I have every sympathy for the victims.
