Cessna Citation Crashes in San Diego, CA
Best screen grab I could get from the available video. Reports are that the only deaths are those who were on board the jet, so this is obviously one of them. |

Re: Cessna Citation Crashes in San Diego, CA
On Thursday, May 22, 2025, a Cessna Citation 550 private jet crashed into the Murphy Canyon neighborhood of San Diego, California, near the Tierrasanta community, around 3:45 a.m. local time. The crash occurred in dense fog as the plane, which had originated from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and made a fueling stop in Wichita, Kansas, was attempting to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, approximately two miles from the crash site. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed six people were on board, all presumed dead, though the exact number of fatalities is still under investigation. The plane was a Cessna 550, registered to Daviation LLC, owned by Dave Shapiro, an FAA-registered pilot and co-founder of Sound Talent Group. It could carry 8–10 passengers, but only six were confirmed on board. The plane reportedly clipped power lines before crashing into a home, causing a massive fire fueled by jet fuel that spread to multiple homes and vehicles. Dense fog was noted as a factor. The crash ignited at least 15 homes and numerous vehicles, with one home completely destroyed and at least 10 others damaged. Approximately 100 residents were evacuated, with Hancock and Miller Elementary Schools serving as evacuation centers. No fatalities were reported on the ground, but eight people sustained minor injuries, including five from smoke inhalation and one from climbing out a window. At least three deaths have been confirmed, all passengers on the plane. The FAA and NTSB presume all six aboard perished, but official confirmation is pending as authorities notify next of kin. Identified Victims: Dave Shapiro: Co-founder of Sound Talent Group and owner of Velocity Aviation. He was an experienced pilot, though it’s unclear if he was flying the plane. Daniel Williams: Former drummer for the metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada. Hours before the crash, he posted Instagram stories from the co-pilot’s seat, though his father confirmed he did not have a pilot’s license and was likely posing for the photo. An Employee: Sound Talent Group confirmed a third employee died but has not publicly named him. |

Re: Cessna Citation Crashes in San Diego, CA
Correct, the crash happened before daylight in an executive jet, not a piston prop plane... FlightAware N666DS
