Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 Loses Door in Flight

An Alaska Airlines flight traveling from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, California, found itself in a harrowing situation, requiring an emergency landing due to depressurization shortly after takeoff.

The incident occurred on Alaska Flight 1282, which departed from Portland just after 5 pm local time on Friday, January 5th, 2024. At an altitude of 16,000 feet, a window suddenly blew out, causing a dramatic moment as it ripped a child's shirt off.

The Boeing 737-9 MAX aircraft, which had recently rolled off the assembly line merely two months ago and received its certification in November 2023, as indicated in FAA records online, experienced this unexpected event.

The door frame involved in the incident is an authentic one, albeit stripped of the slide, internal paneling, and opening mechanisms. The locks are securely bolted in place, theoretically preventing any movement. While this type of door can serve as an additional emergency exit for some operators of this aircraft, it was not activated by Alaska in this instance.

Below is some video taken by a passenger.

Aircraft engineers call that an undocumented feature... nothing that a roll of duct tape can't fix.

I tell my wife that the ejector seat button on her BMW will not work unless the sunroof is fully open. Maybe she will take me seriously now.

I just flew in a 737 Max 9 yesterday and I had an exit row window seat on the left side of the plane.

Well, the next time you do that, please record yourself through the entire flight, so we can make puns about you if something happens.

Ummmmmm........not that we WANT anything to happen to you, of course!

That would have been exciting, for maybe 5 or 10 seconds everyone thinks they're going to die

Aircraft was accepted by the customer ten weeks ago. Everyone at the plant is going to be questioned. What fun to be an QA inspector at the Renton plant.

Also read there was a woman and her son seated in that row. Kid had his shirt sucked right off his body.

I'm surprised there wasn't a single person screaming we gonna die or something like that.

Re: Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 Loses Door in Flight

Well my last post regarding this incident was not totally correct. The kid who has his shirt pulled off and his mother were not in that row of seats according to “The News”.
