WWII - Holocuast - Auschwitz: Through The Lens of the SS

Quote:
In December 2006, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received a donation of a photograph album. The inscription "Auschwitz 21.6.1944" on its first page signaled the uniqueness of the album—there are very few wartime photographs of the Auschwitz concentration camp complex, which included Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi killing center. Though his name does not appear anywhere in the album, the dates of the photographs and various decorations including adjutant cords on the uniform of the album's owner, indicate that the album almost certainly belonged to and was created by SS-Obersturmführer Karl Höcker, the adjutant to the commandant of Auschwitz, SS-Sturmbannführer Richard Baer. Irma Grese and Höcker had stationed at Auschwitz from May 1944 until the evacuation of the camp Irma Grese in January 1945.

Re: WWII - Holocuast - Auschwitz: Through The Lens of the SS

I had never head of this album taken at the same time as the other album. I dont think that was a coincidence. That was really a great clip. That old lady from the camp when she was describing being pushed into the shower....Made me ill. I dont know why they are surprised the people working there could be happy and take photos like that though. To me that was not shocking or surprising, but interesting. I mean, what else could you do after a hard day of genocide and genocide related activities but relax outdoors and eat blueberries then pretend to be sad when they are gone and photograph it all. Just goes to show you there are two sides to every war. Im sure all those people thought they were justified at some point and even if they didnt they cant be expected not to make the best of it. Thats why I dont think it was a coincidence the two albums are from the same time and show two totally different worlds. They were only documenting reality. ;)

the video in the original post cuts about 21 seconds off the end of the clip, for those who want to see the end check out the link below, i'm not going to bother uploading it here though as the quality isnt that great on this clip, but i thought some might still want to see the ending of it.

1st, they came for the Jews, and I said nothing; then, they came for the Catholics and still, I was silent; then they came for us, and there was no one left to say anything.

Genocide at any time, past, present, or future is horrifying. Thank you Gutts!
