Damn. For like the first 3 and a half minutes I kept yelling, "get the foam" and those two teams spray it away with water. It's like one mistake after the other.

That was the infancy of basic shipboard and aviation firefighting. Because of the Forrestal the Navy had to revamp its firefighting program for the whole fleet..

back then they barely had the proper training and gear to combat the fire. Lots of them had to read the directions of how to properly use and OBA (Oxygen Breathing Apparatus) and had to take a mini crash course before entering the damage control area..

How can it be in its infancy? What about the WW2 kamikaze attacks and carrier fires? They should have known better.

Seen that many times in 22 years in the Navy..a comedy of tragic errors...we've learned alot from that accident. I was on board the USS Nimitz when we had a flightdeck fire in 1982 and the fire was out in 10 minutes...we did lose 14 crew...
