The 2010 South China floods began in early May 2010. 235 people have died, and a further 109 people have been reported missing as of June 25, 2010. More than 34 million people in southern and central provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan and Guizhou have been affected with about 3 million people have been evacuated because of the risk of flooding and landslides. Millions lack drinking water. A total of 68,000 houses have been damaged and more than 5000 square kilometers (1.2 million acres) of crops have been affected. Dozens of rivers remain in flood, including the Pearl River in Guangdong province, which was impacted by severe drought during the spring as its outflow was severely reduced. The the damage is roughly 29.7 billion yuan as of June 23, 2010.

Earlier in 2010, heavy rainfall caused the 2010 Jiangxi train derailment and the closure of the Shanghai-Kunming railway line for 24 hours due to a landslide.


Loss

The grim situation 2010 South China floods has exceeded the 1998 Yangtze River floods, which attracted the high attention of state leaders of the Chinese Government and the public. The losses of this floods are under the further precise statistics.

Jiangxi Provinces

17 1000-acres levee were cracked, 33,900 water conservancy projects were damaged. The direct economic loss is about 25.5 billion yuan.

Fujian Provinces

400 victims of flooding have been safely transferred and properly rehoused. The further statistics is underway.

Guangxi Provinces

349.64 million people were affected, 37 deaths, 164.58 thousand hectares of crops affected, 16,395 residential housings collapsed. The direct economic loss is about 24.0543 million yuan, of which 10.2081 million agricultural losses.

Zhejiang Province

At present, all disaster casualties, property losses and other disaster situation are under further statistics.

Sichuan Province

31.81 million people in Luzhou city’s 95 townships were affected. The direct economic loss of Luzhou is about 132 million yuan. The total direct economic loss is under the further statistics.

Hunan Province

769.4 million people of 1,090 townships in 14 cities were affected, and 25,300 houses were collapsed so far.

That is some serious flooding and I laughed at the guy walking through the water that was chest deep and he was holding an umbrella! Like really dude your in chest deep water and that umbrella is going to do what??

It's good to know that no matter how much China fucks up its environment, there will always be a fudged investigation and no blame allocated. Sounds a lot like the soviet union come to think of it.
