Re: The Real Silent Hill Town
Nice pics. Before anybody drives too far to see Centralia, you should be aware of a few things. Firstly, almost all the buildings have been demolished and the debris removed, so there isn't much of a "there" to visit. It wouldn't be difficult at all to drive right by and never notice the place. Secondly, all the way cool cracks in the ground and the creepy cemeteries and stuff are all clustered on top of one hill. There is active strip mining in the immediate area and there are thriving little towns in sight. IOW, there is a lot of activity going on around where Centralia used to be. If you go there expecting to visit the "real" Silent Hill, you are going to be disappointed.

Re: The Real Silent Hill Town
I didn' t see this here yet, but Centralia, which once had a population of around 1,100, is the town that inspired the video game franchise Silent Hill. The whole town was pretty much abandoned following a coal fire May 1962. A fire in a trash dump accidentally ignited the coal mine under the town. It has been burning underground ever since. Attempts to put out the fire over the years have been unsuccessful. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Plots no one visits anymore :-( : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() creepy |

Re: The Real Silent Hill Town
This is erie looking at this. My grandmother lives 90 minutes from here and I remember going here as a child, when it was still an actual town. Over the last 20 years, I've seen it turn into a ghosttown. Wicked...
