A few years ago while traveling in the south east US I noticed a father and adult son at a rest area. The father was helping his son to the rest room and then a while later came back to the parking area still assisting his son who seemed to be in the last stages of aids. The son was totally wasted and thinned out. Just struggling to walk seemed to be almost too much for the man. And the father was a picture of elderly health. Older but reasonably fit. The father was extremely considerate and compassionate toward his son. The bond of love was so great. He seemed like his whole attention was toward his son to make the young man feel comfortable in what looked like his last few days on the earth. No recriminations for a lifestyle that brought about the situation. Just love and compassion and caring.
