Was it his fault? Looked like the engine cut out, you can see the propeller stop spinning before he crashed.

Wasn't an engine cut, he was throttling down after lift-off but down-throttled too far. Didn't account for sideslip as he turned, and didn't check forward or even check is altimeter, being too busy looking off to the side for the view.
