A Mother's Burden (Martin Bryant Story)
Australian 60 minutes actually, the story behind this bloke is the reason aussie gun laws are so strict. Suspicious circumstances indeed, this below pic is supposedly Bryant running away from the cafe he shot up. Funny how casual the people standing on the porch seem... |

Re: A Mother's Burden (Martin Bryant Story)
It has been stated however through various sources that the picture is not Bryant, but a staff member carrying blankets an hour later. I find it highly unlikely that he could have executed so many, and with such precision with his mental capacity http://southeastasianews.org/portarthur/the_facts.html "Immediately following this in what appeared at the time was a knee-jerk reaction under threats from the Federal Government through Prime Minister John Howard all Australian States banned the private possession and use of semi-automatic rifles and implemented the wishlist that gun control groups had been pushing for 10 years." Sound familiar America? |

Re: A Mother's Burden (Martin Bryant Story)
I hope you don't believe that conspiracy BS , it was him .. Here's the best picture taken of him in the Port Arthur parking lot area although blurry and out of focus you can see his long blond hair and the outfit he was wearing and what he was carrying.. although mentally slow he was a good shot with his weapons as was Virginia Tech killer Seung-Hui Cho (mostly head shots) who killed 32 and then himself in 07.

Re: A Mother's Burden (Martin Bryant Story)
Only read this if you’re really interested. It’s long but hopefully concise and the aim is give a little more [additional] insight for anyone following this event. There has already been lots of threads devoted to Port Arthur and or Martin Bryant http://www.documentingreality.com/fo...n-bryant-8878/ http://www.documentingreality.com/forum/f166/horrific-port-arthur-massacre-footage-84312/ ------------------------------------------------------ Now before anyone comes crashing down on me over Gun Ownership and laws. I am a legal registered gun owner, long arms including black powder and pistols. I do use them regularly in club events and hunting.-------------------------------------------------------- Port Arthur Historic Site encompasses a total of more than 100 hectares. About 40 hectares of the Site is accessible to the public, including more than 30 buildings, ruins and restored period houses. The shooting spree [the confined areas], were right next door to each other and near the then entrance of the site. Very few paces apart. In short and to give you perspective. Martin Bryant didn’t need precision. He had already killed several people before arriving at Port Arthur. At near point blank range. Once he arrived on site, he sat and ate lunch, casually pulled out his assault rifles put his finger on the trigger and fired into an overcrowded, small confined “Broad Arrow café” area and in 15 seconds, killed 12 people and injured 10. In the next 90 seconds, he went into the nearby small gift shop and killed 8 more people, most of whom were crouching to hide or trapped in the small room. He then moved to the parking lot, where he killed more people trapped between or on board parked buses. This whole time, Bryant repeatedly fired at people who were running or hiding, but having no marksmanship skills, he missed[appreciable distance] everyone except those to whom he was able to get very close. He had owned and fired weapons since his 14th birthday he was aged 28-years at the time of Port Arthur. He killed 35 people and wounded 21 others his IQ was 66. Firearms used, a Colt AR-15 semi-automatic .223 mm rifle and a Belgian FN-FAL semi-automatic .308 mm SLR, both of which were recovered from Seascape Cottage after detectives went over the burned-out site on the afternoon of 29 April 1996 and a .223 mm Armalite M16 found at Port Arthur. What was frightening evident was that in a very short space of time requiring no skill and using semi/full auto weapons anyone at any time for any reason could murder a huge volume of people. Australia banned semi-automatic long arms, but did not extend the ban to semi-automatic pistols. Some people believe in a conspiracy theory, a psychological operation by the government to disarm Australian citizens. Well In the aftermath, new gun control laws were enacted throughout a shocked Australia. More than anything else, this is what sparked the speculation that a hidden government agenda must have motivated the entire episode, part of a giant master plan to trick the unsuspecting public into willingly disarming. Yeah, the firearm laws are harsh, but I’m not convinced anyone was totally disadvantaged by the laws of not privately owing semi/full automatic long arm weapons. The laws is for everyone not just a few. Everyone is in the same boat. And we do not live in fear of Military takeover of its citizens. There was lots of eye witness to Martin Bryants killing spree. -------------------------------------------------------- Ban of Semi-automatic long arms, not handguns; in 1996 the law on handguns was near to uniform across Australia; and that it would have made it extremely difficult to obtain the National Agreement on Firearms if pistols were included. To obtain legally a concealed handgun is not easy.In 2002, in response to the Monash shooting in Melbourne, the then prime minister, John Howard, banned some types of handguns, but left many more legally available. As the law now stands, a licensed gun owner may legally purchase a military-style, semi-automatic pistol with a magazine capacity of 10 rounds, along with an unlimited supply of ammunition. A child as young as 12 in most states, or fewer than 12 in Western Australia and the Northern Territory, may use a high-powered, military style pistol under adult supervision. Handguns are mostly used for target shooting within gun clubs. Sporting shooters prefer semi-automatic handguns because they are lightweight, they have high firepower and a large calibre and they are compact - unfortunately, these are the very same reasons why those who commit drive-by shootings and other crimes prefer them -------------------------------------------------------- The harsh reality Most handguns start out legal before they become illegal. Both the Australian Institute of Criminology and the Australian Crime Commission have reported firearm theft as the major source for guns moving into the illegal market. Another source is the leakage of firearms from rogue retailers. In five years, 7723 firearms have been reported stolen across Australia. The majority were taken from private residential premises (77 per cent in 2008-09). Most were registered and most have never been recovered. Australia’s population is 22.68 million Like I said. I’m taking no sides on firearm ownership or conspiracy theories, just giving a little more insight so others can make a more informed view of the Port Arthur Massacre and also Australian Regulations on privately owning firearms. |

Re: A Mother's Burden (Martin Bryant Story)
Yes, because you were there right. If you look at all the weird coincidences before, during and after the event - it looks pretty fishy! Way too many coincidences, just like on 9/11 - the pentagon, shanksville etc. People with low mental capacity don't phone the police to lure them out of the area so a massacre can take place. He was a patsy, was there, but wasn't the main shooter. |
