In this forest in north-western Romania civilization ends. For 3 years now there is a asylum for mentally disabled children in the building. Speaker:"The sole advance: The containment can now be inspected. A doctor from a nearby town leads us into the anteroom of death."

Speaker: "On the corridor, between the so called "salons", there is a cage, home for two girls. Both are presumed to be aggressive so they are locked up - day and night. Maria Deutsch is 15 years old. Her mother brought her here, she could not deal with the child anymore. Angela Fekete (?), the 11th child of an illiterate, the father was presumed to be insane. The 13yo's record says that she needs 'special care and psychological assistance'. Keeping human beings under the standard of a kennel. Life-circumstances as a cause of death."
[doctor browses in patient's records, enumerates]
Marta Frentin: "Embuzs(?), 3 years old, severly disabled, palsied legs, fell into a coma....girl, 3 years old, severly disabled, fell into coma....girl 7 years old, severly disabled, fell into coma...."
[the cemetry]
Speaker: "Frozen or starved to death in dirt and misery or perished after infections. Cighid - an extermination asylum for children with its own cemetry. 54 children died in 1988, 62 died in the last year of Caucescu (romanian dictator, executed 1989) and the perish goes on."
[Dr. Anca Cartis worked in Cighid for only 2 month. She could not bear it any longer.]
Dr. Anca Cartis: "I've tried everything! I wanted to change something in Cighid, but I could not accomplish anything. Cighid destroyed me. I was always in conflict with the employees. Nobody of them wanted to believe, that you could help the children with less money as well. They need humaneness."

Speaker: " 'irrekuterabil' (?), incurably disturbed: this verdict hangs like the sword of Damocles over them. But who would be able to decide what is an effect of their illness and what is an effect of this ill treatment? Some of them might be 'not normal', but it is also not normal, that nobody cares for them.

Speaker: "Even the motionless awake from their lethargy, when they notice someone is interested in them."

Speaker: "The sole attention that the children get from the employees is daily lunch: a greasy stodge made of beans, corn and rancid fat."

Speaker: "Muck from the bucket. Not digestible, even for grown-ups.

Speaker: "This sole sensation among the monotony of ever same days, for 7yo Tiberius Vager (?) it has no charm. He hasn't eaten for a long time as if he came to terms with his life."

B.G.:" They should have been killed right after birth. Then it would not have come to this. We didn't have another option than letting them die! Central heating would be fine and warm water in every room. But it does not work like this. We have to carry the water from the kitchen bucket after bucket."

Speaker: "But the employees even don't do, what one could expect from them...

Speaker: "There are relief supplies sent by the western world in a remote part of the asylum. Diapers and baby food, untouched for weeks. The administrator has the key to this room. Nobody knows, where he is."
[barred door is opened]
Speaker: "It's not the Third World behind this bar it's the night of civilization in the middle of Europe, three months after Caucescu. In the persitent half-light of the darkest corner of the hell of Cighid ail 15 children between 6 and 16 years old. The stove is out of order, a fire would be to dangerous, because this dungeon, called 'isolator', is always unattended."

[Second day, employee cleaning the floor]
Speaker: "On our second day the death camp seems to have changed over night. The floor in the 'salons', that was pilled with greasy slime, is cleant with water. The children are washed and have new clothes on. Intact toys make the illusion nearly complete. But appearances are deceiving."
[Maria Deutsch is lead to injection]
Speaker: "In the evening the daily ordeal for Maria Deutsch begins anew. After 12 hours in her cage she is prepared for the night. In order that the employees are not disturbed she is injected a highly potent tranquilizer. 'Chlorpromazinhydrochloride', a psychiatric medication of the 1st generation (means very nasty side-effects), phased out in the west for a very long time."
[Maria Deutsch screaming]

Speaker: "And on the next day, Margit, Mindra and Daniel will once again walk to the railway station. They will listen to music and dance again. Dance to survive Cighid..."

Seeing this breaks my heart more then anything....I have a mentally challenged daughter and I could never ever imagine putting her in a place like this or any mental hospital......I wish I had all the money in the world to take care of children who are in this situation..unwanted and uncared for.

Those babies should be dressed and intereacting with each other! This is one of the worst things I have seen on this site, (and I mean that in the nicest way)!

The third child after the kids dancing, appears to have fetal alcohol syndrome. Others appear to have muscle or bone diseases, possibly starving to death! Those cribs are two small for one child, let alone more. I'd like to know why some are in cages!

Absolutely horrendous doesn't begin to describe what I feel seeing those babies! People would adopt them. Some are actually smiling and appear, "normal", to me. I only got to 3:33 and stopped watching.

Heartbreaking! I'm beginning to think birth control should be mandatory in all countries until you prove you're a human being. We need licenses to drive, fish and own pets! Any piece of shit can have a baby and toss him or her away with the trash! These creatures are always fertile when woman elsewhere are crying because they can't carry a baby or get pregnant!

Maury Povich, on his tv show, gives teen girls who think they want to have babies a doll that cries until you figure out what's wrong with it. Most don't make it through the first night!

I read the translation so some of my questions are now answered, but, that doesn't make it right! I will never understand how people can do this to children! Never!

The only thing I have to say to this. DR has finally topped itself. This is the first thing that has made me feel like this... bravo DR.

I guess what makes me feel some amount of happiness...is at least the children are mentally incapacitated enough to not really realize the situation they are in. Bless them.
