...In 1988 in Oslo, a young Swedish singer by the name of Per "Pelle" Yngvay Ohlin joined the Norweigen metal band "Mayhem" and Black Metal, as we know it, was born.
Credited as being the first to wear "corpse" paint, the young singer broke all socially accepted barriers in the music world: slicing himself up on stage, preforming with pig and sheep heads impaled on stage, and tossing rotting animal guts out into the audience.
The youth took notice, and eagerly embraced a new outlet for the frustrations of living in a tightly ruled Christian society.
But that was on the outside. What was occurring on the inside of the band was a descent into sheer madness.
Pelle-Stage name "Dead"
Oystien-stage name "Euronymous"
And
Varg Vickernes-stage name Count Grishnackh
The three were entwined in a fate that would eventually see two of them dead, one imprisoned for murder, and leave the black metal world reeling...

...As the band grew in popularity, tensions between Oystien and Pelle grew more strained. It was said that they would frequently quarrel and do little things in an attempt to piss one another off.
Pelle, speaking very little Norwegian, spent most of his time alone in the band house reading, journaling, writing lyrics and creating artwork for the band.
On August 10, 1991 Oystien and another band mate went out to the band house only to find the front door locked and everything quiet.
Lacking a key to the door, Oystien, being of smaller stature, climbed through the window.
What he found was the dead body of Pelle-left arm cut to the bone, throat slit, and a massive shotgun wound to the head.
Oystien did not call the police. Instead, he did the unthinkable: he ran to the store abd bought a disposable canera.
This is the only known photo of Pelle in exsistence today:

Not only did he take photos of Pelle's corpse, but also collected pieces of his skull to turn into necklaces for other black metal bands he deemed "worthy" and he took a piece of brain which he later cooked up into a stew and ate so that he could say he was a cannibal.
Again, this is the only known picture of Pelle's "skull necklace"

August 10th, 1993 would once again find Mayhem lost in maddness.
At 3:00 am Varg Vikerness drove to Oslo to see Oystien on the pretext of signing a contract.
The only account of what followed came from Varg himself. He stated that at first Oystien did not want to let him in, but after putting up an argument with him about the contract, Oystien allowed him entry.
Varg stated that Oystien was standing in the hallway "looking nervous"
What followed next is anyone's guess.
Varg testified that he believed Oystien was going to kidnap him, take him to the woods and tie him to a tree where Oystien would then torture him to death on video camera.
The facts are that the next morning Oystien was discovered in the stairwell stabbed 23 times-2 to the back of the head, five to the neck and 16 to the back.
At court, Varg pleaded that he had killed Oystien in self defence. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison and was released in 2009. He is now living under an assumed name.
The following pictures are of Pelle's grave, Oystien's grave, and Varg Vikernes smiling in court when he was sentenced.

As a Metalhead Form Germany, I knew the Story and the Pictures very well.
But this Thread is a very nice reminder and made me look at the Black Metall Genre again
