Re: Holden Commodore W427

Yeah, I like the Audi. never thought I would have liked a foreign make over. American make, but Audi has a smooth comfortable ride with lots of extras and hp. The ones I driven are TT, A4, A5, A8, and the S-model which is the one that sold me on Audi. I've never driven a R8, but I have driven a Ferrari that rode pretty rough.

Re: Holden Commodore W427

Years ago i had the good fortune to be a passenger in a Lambohgini Contauge, it accelerated like a rocket but when you hit a bump it is quite uncomfortable. It also made the owner grind his teeth and curse at our goat track like roads.

Re: Holden Commodore W427

That's what makes the W427 so great. It has speed, handling and comfort, it also costs way less than the cars that it competes with.

Re: Holden Commodore W427

Supposedly those 427 engines are also handbuilt, not to the same anal specs and quality as the Nissan GT-R's, but still hand crafted. The GT-R's engine is hand assembled in a temperature controlled clean room to eliminate the slight differences in metal due to temperature differences. They really are very special and the GT-R is a massive bargain in terms of build quality, performance, and price... The W427 is a better bargain IMO though, four doors, four REAL seats (the GT-R's rear seat is made for circus midgets), and that engine. In the C6 Z06 it sounds absolutely gorgeous at idle and when you give it the full beans it will give a deaf man goosebumps.

One of the biggest sellers to me for it is the engine has real race heritage. That 7 liter engine is a cousin to the C5 and C6 R race car engines. For some reason 427 cubic inches is such a magical number too.

Re: Holden Commodore W427

The only problem i know of with the 427 is that the managment chip in it sets a maximum speed limit. While this can be fixed by importing a new chip that is not limited, it is supposedly illegal to do so. I have no idea how the cops could tell and the idea that Holden would crippple the performance is, to me, quite absurd. It's a shame that the car will not be going in to full production because if it did then motorsport teams using Holdens would hold a huge advantage over ford. Go the General!!!

Re: Holden Commodore W427

Well doesn't the SuperV8 series have a limitation on engine displacement? It doesn't show much here in the States so I don't get to follow it much unfortunately. Being GM and as cash strapped as they are I'm really surprised they still participate in the Le Mans series both the American and European circuits. Especially after having their ass handed to them by Aston Martin and ESPECIALLY since Aston is such a low volume manufacturer.

I'm honestly not a huge fan of American cars. I think it has more to do with the fact that people not giving other country's cars a chance equates to racism on a low level. However the C5 and C6 Corvettes I really like because those cars were used to establish GM deeply back into motorsport. The C6 Z06 especially because that engine is a direct street homologation of the C5R engine.

Re: Holden Commodore W427

The rules change each year and it is quite hard for most people to keep up with it. As far as i know, the rules don't limit engine displacement but it does have to be a V8 and it must be rear wheel drive only. No turbos or blowers are allowed either. Some years ago they allowed cosworth sierras and nissan skylines, the races were lop sided and favoured the turbos and 4WDs. There is a minimum weight rule and restrictions on the amount of downforce that the cars aerodynamic package is allowed to produce. Another one i just remembered is that the car must be in current production in Australia, have 4 doors, and must have sold a certain amount of units before the car is legal for the track. I strongly believe that the W427 would dominate anything that Ford could throw at it.
I don't care where the car comes from, as long as it has a V8 in it then i will look at it and judge it fairly.

Re: Holden Commodore W427

The Maloo is the ute right? That's a lot less weight one of those buggers needs to haul around and significantly less on the ass end. We here in the U.S. have been rumored to get the Commodore Ute, but I doubt it will happen now with Pontiac closing down. Why couldn't they shut down Buick instead? Yah, great marketing GM, shut down the sporting division that brought decent shit to the U.S. and not the "Luxury" division that made shit that not even a mother could love.
