Re: Flowers in the Gun Barrel
Then try also to trust your own common sense and logic. Do your own research look up the treaties and read the writings of those people who never left. And ask yourself a few questions that make sense. Hebrew is language of choice of most Jewish refugees and was that way even in the 1800's. But there was always a Jewish presence in Israel. And these people also spoke Hebrew. Hebrew originates in Israel. Of course it has elements of other langauges but it is particular to Jewish people and has it's roots from the time of the Exodus of Israel out of Egypt and the building of the first Temple. The beginnings of Israel as a nation are in that area. The langauge is rooted in that area. The first book of the Torah and onwards is about Israel and that land. As for Palestinians these ancient people were wiped out as a nation from their wars with the nation of Israel. There are no modern recognizable descendants of that people. After the Romans dispersed the last remnants of Judah they did leave isolated communities of Jews who carried on quietly over the centuries. Also there were Jewish descendants who still carried on from the Babylonian diaspora and they also are still there with their Torah unchanged to this day in the same Paleo Hebrew script. While the Jews who remained from the Second Diaspora of the Romans had their Torah with the modern square script Hebrew. But until the rebirth of the modern state of Israel these Jews and also new arrivals in the 1800's called themselves Palestinians. The Arabs of course called themselves... Well, ... Arabs. Even a small bit of research in the old news papers will reveal this fact. _____________________________________ The Palestine Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1936 under the leadership of Bronislaw Huberman. Huberman, a violinist, at first envisioned an international center for the arts, but instead focused on developing a critically acclaimed symphony orchestra. Conditions in Europe had become such that the orchestra could serve as a haven for persecuted Jewish musicians. Many immigration certificates became available, as the orchestra could provide employment for the refugees. The new immigrants themselves provided fresh talent and energy for cultural pursuits in the yishuv. While Huberman continued to work on behalf of the orchestra, Arturo Toscanini agreed to become its first conductor. He was quick to help establish the orchestra's reputation. In addition to drawing talented musicians to the orchestra itself, many other chamber orchestras and groups formed throughout the yishuv. In 1948, the orchestra changed its name to the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.... ______________________________________ Also it is obvious that the roots of Arabic are found in Arabia. The current arabs in Israel only took to calling themselves Palestinians after the rebirth of the Nation of Israel ________________________________________ During the British Mandate of Palestine, the term "Palestinian" was used to refer to all people residing there, regardless of religion or ethnicity, and those granted citizenship by the Mandatory authorities were granted "Palestinian citizenship". Other examples include the use of the term Palestine Regiment to refer to the Jewish Infantry Brigade Group of the British Army during World War II, and the Palestinian Talmud, a section of the Jewish oral tradition originating from the biblical Land of Israel. Following the 1948 establishment of the State of Israel, the use and application of the terms "Palestine" and "Palestinian" by and to Palestinian Jews largely dropped from use. For example, the English-language newspaper The Palestine Post, founded by Jews in 1932, changed its name in 1950 to The Jerusalem Post. Jews in Israel and the West Bank today generally identify as Israelis. Arab citizens of Israel identify themselves as Israeli and/or Palestinian and/or Arab. ________________________________ So by saying you hate Jews or Jews don't have a right to live in Israel you are singling out a people simply based on thier religion. Many muslims claim to be descended from Jews. So do they have a right to live in Israel? Only because they are now muslims? Or if a person refers to himself as Israeli and is a muslim is it then only because he is a muslim that he has a right? It's not a simple argument of Jew vs arab or Israeli vs Palestinian since there are Muslims who are indeed descended from Jews and Jewish people who are indeed descended from Arabic stock. And Jewish people once called themselves Palestinians and their documents even stated this fact. |

Re: Flowers in the Gun Barrel
This is a true statement for sure. Although it should be noted that there is an Israeli equivalent of the Palestinian 'freedom fighters'. They're the bum Hasidim that leech off of the state. They spend all of their time studying the Torah at Yeshiva, not working any real job. And the only time they take a break is when they feel the urge to throw rocks at Christians. If these two groups of people could learn to control themselves, then I think we'd live in a much better world... |
