Re: Fish Cannot Feel Pain Say Scientists

The scientists can suppose that the fish feel no pain but how can they KNOW for sure. I am skeptical and believe that fish do feel pain. All animals and living beings with a brain and nerves would feel pain, and unless it's irrevocably proven otherwise I will continue to assume they do.

Re: Fish Cannot Feel Pain Say Scientists

Like minty said, I had some tiger oscars once (AWESOME fish btw) that I fed goldfish occasionally. The goldfish definitely acted as if they were in pain. Buuuuuut I still go fishing on the reg. Caught some nice steelhead last week as a matter of fact.

if you're a fisherman and you've ever tried cleaning a fish while it's still alive ( i worked on a charter fishing boat) it's fairly obvious that fish feel pain.

trust me.

you take a fillet knife and run it down a live fish and you will see a pain response. it's hard to watch.. for me anyway.

Re: Fish Cannot Feel Pain Say Scientists

The new research also referred to a study done on fish which were caught with a hook and then released.

The fish resumed feeding and normal activity immediately or within minutes and went on to show good long-term survival, which indicated they had not experienced pain.
within minutes so what did they experience than in those minutes ?
also resuming feeding doesn't mean they didn't experience pain at the moment the hook went thru their mouth.
maybe they have a short time memory like goldfish as resuming feeding has anything to do with (short) pain. If i hammer myself on my finger i'm in pain but still eat a sammich if it's handed to me.

Re: Fish Cannot Feel Pain Say Scientists

For arguments sake, let's pretend they can't feel pain.

Does that make it any less horrible when we kill them?

No. But it would make someone sleep easier, and that's what this is about. Those fucking idiots don't give a shit about the fish. If they did-THEY WOULDNT FUCKING KILL THEM.

As soon as you tell me how to fillet the fish I catch without killing them, I'll stop killing them.

Re: Fish Cannot Feel Pain Say Scientists

i think i vote no pain. just like human when pain receptors were disabled by drugs. dentist can tug and tug with your teeth and the only thing important for the patient is how to stay put in the chair. no pain. just the struggling.

Fish were not created for you to eat. You just happened to evolve to eat them. Humans domesticated some animals to be pets.

Fish are not built like us. They have different systems. From what I've read, they don't have the same nerve endings as us, so it's ASSUMED that they cannot feel pain.

So I guess different means non existent.

Sometimes scientists/researchers make me just shake my head.
