East LA's Abandoned Hospital - Linda Vista
Built in 1938 as a hospital for railroad employees (and reportedly occupied by Howard Hughes on occasion), it closed in 1990. Since then, the place has been haunted mainly by film crews: they shot parts of Outbreak, End of Days, Boogeyman 2 and the pilot for E.R. there. I love checking these place out when I get to tag along on location scouts...

Re: East LA's Abandoned Hospital - Linda Vista
Was this the same building where Scrubs was shot? I remember reading that they used a vacant hospital in the LA area. How many can there be? That brings me to another point. I wish UrbExers, of which I are one, would differentiate more cleanly between abandoned and merely vacant when they post about their expeditions. Every building that isn't occupied right this very minute isn't abandoned. |

No, Scrubs was shot at the North Hollywood Medical Center, a decommissioned hospital which was demolished in 2011. As for how many 'abandoned' or closed hospitals, more than you might imagine since the recession hit. But as the land they occupy is generally valuable, they don't remain 'abandoned' very long, getting torn down or converted.
