We weren't there, we don't know what the whole story was. Although I wouldn't have chosen to do that to my child, I don't think she deserves to be charged with abuse.
We have gone too softly softly. There has to be a happy medium.
I will stand back and wait to get flamed now. But I still think that sometimes children do need discipline and as long as it isn't causing bodily harm, mental harm or it's what any sane person can see isn't beyond reprimanding then I think we do need to get tougher with kids. Otherwise, twenty years from now we will have a generation of spoiled, selfish, misbehaving brats who are now adults and running the country.

But she was 2 and a half, just a baby . It doesn't matter if the hose wasn't on full blast, it was still an awful thing to do! I have a 7 year old daughter, and my God, some days I want to throw myself out the window, but I will never physically abuse her, no matter how mouthy she gets with me.

I understand that people have gotten too soft on kids, and sadly there are alot of asshole kids running around, but I just think the age of this little girl is what gets me the most. Her brain is still growing. She is still learning right from wrong. She is going to make mistakes, and she will throw temper tantrums- she is 2! She still has SO much more developing and learning to do.

Karma, you are not getting flamed by me, there is no need. You have your opinion, I have mine . I don't think this woman needs jail time, but she absolutely needs to take parenting classes. There was no need for this punishment

Even though the mother didn't pull the trigger on the wand and hit the baby with high pressure, it's still a shitty thing to do to a baby. They have to be taught right from wrong, but it should have been handled in a different way that the baby could understand. At that age, time out actually works well. When they get older, the trouble starts, lol.
