Catacombs Of Paris

Catacombs of Paris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I was in the Paris Catacombs on February 21st, 2009 and took some video and pictures. This place was incredible, located 20m below the streets of Paris it contains the remains of 6 million skeletons. We spent hours down there with the bodies, it was very cool and somewhat zen.

Re: Catacombs Of Paris

Here are some pictures, it was cool to take them as long as you didn't use flash. Also, they search you for bones when you leave and there was a small pile of one skull and six femurs that people had tried to steal. And people say I'm fucked.
The sculpture was done by one of the workers in his spare time from memory.

I envy you so much. It looks beautiful in there. The third pic says, "Stop! This is the empire of the dead". I've heard if the lights were turned off, it becomes the epitome of pitch black darkness in there. Also that people have actually gotten lost for days in there.
Why don't they allow flash photography?
Very nice post.

Re: Catacombs Of Paris

Thanks, it was awesome. I can't wait to go back next year and do the sewer tour. You aren't allowed to use flash anywhere in the museums and galleries of Paris. It is by far the most visited country in the world with an average of 89 million visitors per year. Compared with the U.S.'s 55 million in second place it is quite a difference and they are afraid of the repetitive flashing ruining things in the long run. So as a rule you just don't use it anywhere inside.
I have pics of Jim Morrison's grave and video as well if anyone still cares about him, let me know.

Didn't exist when I posted this. Not sure how it ended up in Death Videos. I think I posted it in the old research forum. Chris put it here when he reorganized I guess. Hmmm.

Re: Catacombs Of Paris

Your photos are nice, thank you.
There are official visits and unofficial tours. One can get lost easily without a guide. There's been quite a while ago, but it was also notorious to have the visits or violent people (hooligans, etc.) seeking to disturb party people or visitors.
