B-25 Crash into the Empire State Building (28 July 1945)

Colonel William Smithand and his U.S. Army B-25 Mitchell bomber crashed into the Empire State Building killing 11 office workers and 3 crewmen also injuring 26 others. The cause of the crash was due to low visibility caused by fog. One engine and a piece of landing gear hurtled across the 79th floor landing on a 12 story building on 33 street catching it on fire. Another engine crashed into a elevator shaft landing on a elevator car causing it to plummet 75 stories. Elevator operator Betty Lou Oliver survived, setting a Guinness world record for longest elevator fall. |

One of four times a plane hit a building in Manhattan, 40 Wall Street was also hit by a bomber due to fog. The two on 9/11 and excluded are the two helicopters that fell off the top of the PANAM / Metlife Building back when an express JFK International / Midtown shuttle was operated on its helipad roof

I'm not a conspiracist. 911 happened how it did. But how does the empire state building sustain so much less damage? Specially since its an older building and a pretty large plane?

The ESB had collums of steel throughout it, while the twin towers had the core and outer wall supporting their weight. When the plane hit, it took out several support points, vital to the tower staying upright. Add 10,000 pounds of jetfuel which burned off pretty quickly, BUT covered everything else and spread fire everywhere. The B-52 was traveling a lot slower than the ones on 9/11, and was low on fuel. |
