I know the story is LD and this is an old quote from the story but I hate when newspapers sensationalize the basic shit. Pinellas County? Next to Hillsborough which he was in. On a bad day in rush hour, 45 minutes from Clearwater to the hospital. Every other time, 25 minutes. They made the mother into some sort of hero for happening to drag her ass 15-20 miles as "long treks" while keeping her son (who, btw, had skull reconstruction which is why there's a difference in video). I would think all mothers would A) do that anyway and B) most tend to shut off life support and donate organs to save others lives in these situations. He doesn't "live" at home - he exists there with the full machines either rented or donated to keep him alive like the hospital. She keeps saying he is improving, he is improving - but stopped putting up videos on it and refuses to let the media come in - which for normal people might sound reasonable, but she's the one that called the press to come to his release day and for everything else. He went home because there was nothing to do at the hospital that couldn't be done at home... no physical/occupational/speech therapy. He hadn't done anything since being brought of of his coma after the crash.

It was during an attempt at physical therapy and to keep down blood clots on his legs - or what's left of them after full atrophy. It shows zero response and makes the part where it appears he is moving his head look a little more in context - that his head actually had slipped because they were on a tilt table and the nurse lost her grip.

of him coming home shows how he doesn't respond to anything and flops down unless his mom touches him and his body does an auto-response. You can see she'll jabber on and on and when she notices he "looks veggie", she will reach and touch him to make him appear like he responds but other videos on our news at the time - he didn't look at people, he didn't look up at media, he doesn't look at her. She has ONE spot she repeatedly touches to get him to "look up".

Yes, he is partially at fault. That's why douchebag Hogan got a lighter sentence. John was found more responsible for his injuries than Nick at the root of it all. A seat belt alone would have left him with minor injuries, maybe a broken leg. The damage he suffered could have been wholly avoided by his own action. Aside from hanging out with a drinking minor and hopping in and riding shottie with him as he OFTEN DID. He was in the passenger seat all the time with Hogan raced. This wasn't a one off thing.

Also, IIRC - Nick/Hogan's aren't paying for his medical care for life. A lot of it is taken care of by... taxpayers given his service. The rumor is he got a $35 million settlement however. But - that does not have to go towards medical. Military medical post-service isn't dependent on income. His mother also likely gets a stipend as his "in home care provider".

As for Michael's outcome, the driver in his crash is currently charged with a DUI ending in manslaughter. But alas, Michael was NOT drinking but was stupid enough to get into the car with a guy who was drunk driving? And chose not to wear a seat belt after seeing what happened to his brother? They smashed into the back of a dump truck which threw Michael and the driver face first into it. A seat belt may or may not have saved his life, I've yet to see head on photos of the car and nothing is public AFAIK yet trying to avoid chances of tainted juries. They were childhood best friends so Michael full and well what this guy had done with his prior convictions.

The question will be if this this goes to trial - will Michael's driver end up paying the price for what Nick did if juries think this family has "suffered enough"? And will this leave open the appeal based on the lawyer stating that happens? Or will a jury see it as - oh well, it looks like the family was a mess and the kid learned nothing from his brother? I haven't heard any word on a trial date set and last I knew, he was considering plea agreements.

In regards to monetary settlements if you are talking about tricare or military medical care, tricare only covers service related disability or related illnesses without cost. Even if you served 20 years and retired with tricare for life, in a case like this where there is 3rd party responsibility tricare ( the VA hospital in this case) will expect to get reimbursed out of the settlement. So whatever the family got it will be reduced by medical costs.

If anyone let me live like this or allowed me to or made me ...however u look at that. When I did finally die, I'd come back and fuck with everyone that was a part of that. I would haunt them until they killed themselves I'd be so extremely pist!!! Surely, he'd pull the plug if he could himself so wtf are they thinking. They need a life size doll for amusement????
