Heysel Stadium Disaster 1985: Death Photos From the Crush
On May 29, 1985, a devastating tragedy occurred at the Heysel Stadium in Brussels, Belgium, during the European Cup final between Liverpool and Juventus. The incident, later known as the Heysel Stadium Disaster, resulted in the deaths of 39 people, mostly Italian fans, and left over 600 injured, marking it as one of the darkest days in the history of European football. The tragedy unfolded when clashes broke out between rival supporters. Liverpool fans charged at a section filled with Juventus supporters, causing a retaining wall to collapse under the pressure of the fleeing crowd. The resulting crush led to fatalities and numerous injuries. The match, which went ahead despite the chaos, saw Juventus winning 1-0. However, the game was overshadowed by the horrific events that had taken place earlier. The Heysel Stadium Disaster highlighted the serious issue of hooliganism in football and the inadequate safety measures at sporting venues. In the aftermath of the disaster, English clubs were banned from European competition for five years (with Liverpool receiving an additional year), a decision that had significant repercussions for English football. The incident led to widespread reforms in stadium safety standards and crowd control measures across Europe. · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · · |

Seriously, that's some crazy shit. Everyone considers Americans to be rude and inconsiderate, which may be true of some, but I'm pretty sure if there were 39 freshly dead bodies laying around, the "show wouldn't go on".
