Anatoly Moskvin, a Russian historian and linguist, became the center of a macabre and disturbing case in the city of Nizhny Novgorod and beyond. In 2011, authorities discovered that Moskvin had desecrated graves and mummified the bodies of young women, leading to widespread horror and disbelief.

Born on September 1, 1966, Moskvin was a well-respected scholar, known for his extensive knowledge of local cemeteries, history, and folklore. However, beneath this scholarly demeanor lay a chilling obsession. The police investigation revealed that Moskvin had exhumed the bodies of at least 29 girls, aged between three and 25, from local graveyards.

Moskvin's apartment was filled with the mummified remains of these young women, whom he dressed in clothes and positioned around his home. He treated these bodies as if they were his own children, reportedly holding birthday parties and conversing with them in a delusional state of mind.

The depth of Moskvin's mental disturbance became a significant aspect of the case. Declared mentally unfit for trial, he was diagnosed with a form of schizophrenia and placed in a psychiatric hospital.

Srsly, tho? While I'd be pissed if it were my daughter's remains that got dug up, I'd at least be thankful that the dude wasn't plying his perversions on the living. While what this dude did is sick and impossible to sympathize with, it's at least more forgiveable then a number of possible alternatives.

Case in point: a few years ago down in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, some dude cut the head off of his disabled son and left it in the driveway in broad daylight for the kid's mother to see when she came home. His story from the start -- to the cops that arrested him all the way to the judge and the psych docs that got stuck with the unsavory task of treating and analyzing him -- was that the kid was a realistic "CPR dummy" that the government had planted to test him. He said he wanted to stand trial for what he did, since he was certain that the facts as presented at trial would support his story. The fucker was so crazy that he was convinced that the coroner would have shown up to trial with a robotic head as an evidence exhibit.

The psych docs did their best to rehabilitate him enough to stand trial, but to no avail. He was declared crazy earlier this year and sentenced to a lifetime of psychiatric institutionalization.

So like I said: what Mr. Moskvin did is sick, ghoulish, depraved, and perverted; but he could have done a hell of a lot worse than that.

Well seeing as the guy is mentally ill it's hard to hate him. Plenty of cases of mentally ill people doing things they don't understand why they themselves are doing.
