Re: 9/11 Sculpture Depicts Jumper at Moment of Impact
Of course, because whenever 9/11 is mentioned, everyone's first thought is: "Oh, how I miss those twin towers. They were so aesthetically pleasing; such a feat of modern architecture & design; so symbolic of America's wealth & power. *sigh* What a shame that they fell down."

Re: 9/11 Sculpture Depicts Jumper at Moment of Impact
You know how sometimes artists will tell you 'you just don't get it' if you happen to dislike a piece of horrible art they want to defend? Well I'm an artist & have a degree in fine art from a fancy pants art school of some standing. So here are my 2 cents: Short answer:This sucks. Longer analysis: Anatomically it is unsound. It shows little understanding of movement or physics of a body hitting the ground .Yes, it should be way gorier, not the 'peaceful' angle which is blatant romanticizing of a horrible way to die. We've all seen the bits of human flesh on the sidewalk-doesn't look too peaceful to me. It adds nothing to a discussion about the ideas it is supposed to generate. It brings nothing new or innovative to the table. It is poor taste without having a REASON to be in poor taste. Technically and as a work of art it blows chunks. So, if somebody tries to defend this nonsense as art that you, dear non-artist are too 'bourgeois' or 'plebian' to get or some shit like that, tell 'em yr DR artist buddy Drusilla would beg to differ. |
