Here a recent paper of D. Capaldo "Overcooked Dogma's ..." refuting some critics from "main stream" economists on his previous study paper.
Only 5 pages of pdf, and still explaining clearly what are the problems with the models, the unrealistic assumptions and base line scenarios used.

original and the summary in annex

Also a informative study of the german Bertelsman group.

Are the wheels starting to fall off TTIP?
Nick Dearden

13 May 2015
Trade

In a shock vote for President Obama yesterday, the Senate blocked a bill that would have allowed him to 'fast track' trade agreements like TTIP. Although only a procedural vote, the fact that Democrats in the Senate united to dismiss the motion makes it significantly less likely that Obama will succeed, with commentators saying Obama's trade strategy is now 'in tatters'.

Obama needs fast track authority in order to finish negotiations on US-EU trade deal (TTIP) and its sister agreement the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) with countries including Japan and Vietnam. Without it, he has to go back for proper Congressional discussion and amendments which, he argues, would make any deal impossible. But Obama's party are very reluctant to support him, opposed to the job losses and attacks on workers’ rights they believe would result for the trade agreements.

Lead opponent Senator Elizabeth Warren is particularly concerned about the 'corporate court' system which allows foreign corporations to sue governments in secret courts for enacting regulations that threaten corporate profits. Earlier this year she told the Washington Post that the system, known as Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) “would allow foreign companies to challenge U.S. laws — and potentially to pick up huge payouts from taxpayers — without ever stepping foot in a U.S. Court”.

Campaigners had certainly hoped to defeat Obama's fast track bid in the lower House of Representatives. But to be defeated in the Senate makes fast track's chances of succeeding much smaller. And if fast track falls, TTIP and TPP are pushed back at least 18 months until after the election. Interestingly Presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton, normally a staunch supporter of free trade deals, is keeping quiet on fast track, aware of its unpopularity in her party.

The battle isn't over, but yesterday's vote should give campaigners everywhere real hope.

Saying No to Corporate bill of rights in trade agreements made easy by online tool

(EPSU Press release - 20 May 2015) EPSU and many unions like GdG-KMSfB were amongst the 150.000 people and organisations that participated in the EU public consultation on investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) in forthcoming trade agreements between the EU and the US called TTIP. We and 97% of those responding said No to ISDS in the agreement.

We want the Members of the European Parliament to respect this position and express themselves in the same way. That is why EPSU and its Austrian affiliate GdG-KMSfB have engaged with the environmental organisation Friends of the Earth and with the Austrian workers’ organisation Arbeiterkammer in an easy online tool to allow people in Europe to express themselves towards Members of the European Parliament.

With this online tool at http://www.no2isds.eu we ask you to demand the MEPs to reject special rights for corporations and in particular to reject the right that corporations can complain against democratic decisions of states at international tribunals seeking to extract exorbitant sanctions. On the website you can contact your MEP or a group of MEPs asking to take position against ISDS.

MEPs accused of ‘betraying the European people’ in TTIP vote

28 May 2015

ep The voice of the European people was ignored today when members of the European Parliament’s trade committee agreed a resolution backing the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) for the full parliament to vote on next month.

The vote flies in the face of European public opinion, with almost two million people signing a European Citizens’ Initiative opposing the secretive EU-US trade deal.

The full European Parliament will now vote on the compromise text at its next plenary in Strasbourg during the week of 8 June.

War on Want Executive Director John Hilary said: “Millions of people across Europe have said no to TTIP, in the strongest trade campaign we have ever seen. Yet MEPs have turned their backs on their own constituents, choosing instead to side with the business lobbyists of Brussels. This is an outright betrayal of the European people, and we shall not forget it.”

MEPs also backed the European Commission's controversial proposal for an ‘investor-state dispute settlement’ (ISDS) system, which grants privileged powers to foreign corporations.

The text presented by committee chairperson Bernd Lange at the eleventh hour dropped a key phrase rejecting the use of ISDS, and supported instead the new proposals for ISDS in TTIP introduced by EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström earlier this month.

Lange was publicly criticised by other MEPs for the procedure adopted in pushing through his support for ISDS.

There have been a slew of publicised ISDS cases highlighting how corporations have sued states for laws protecting public health and the environment, among others.

ISDS was removed from TTIP negotiations in January 2014. The European Commission later conducted a public consultation which received a record 150,000 responses, over 97% of which were against ISDS.

Over 1.94 million people from across Europe have signed the European Citizens’ Initiative against TTIP and CETA, including more than a quarter of a million from the UK; see here.

The European Commission’s consultation on TTIP was completed in July 2014; to see the results, visit here.
