Re: Vintage Road Accidents
in australia, i "think" front seat beats were compulsory during the 60's (maybe 50's) rear seat belts became compulsory (but were optional and generally fitted by the manufacturer) on 1st jan 1974 if a car wasn't fitted with them, it does not need to have them fitted. however, once they are fitted (either by the factory, dealer or owner), it is illegal to remove them although i do know of at least one car from 1977 that didn't have rear seat belts fitted ever and to my knowledge, it still does not have them |

Re: Vintage Road Accidents
current cars crumple in a good way though . . . sort of :) for a low speed scrape, my 1973 ford would sustain much less damage and therefore cost than a new car however, there is no way i would choose a 60kph/40mph+ impact in it over a new car and of course, my 1973 car would be much, much safer than any of the cars in this thread most of the early cars until the 1960's were just tin cans that peeled apart or caved in at any highway speed impact from the 60's they became more solid, but they were not forgiving, so the driver took all of the impact the 70's started becoming safer, but those cars are no where near as safe as what we have now :) |
