well im glad im not the only one that thinks therye beautiful, in a wierd way. apparently it was real common place around victorian times (i think!!!) mainly because people wanted a way remember loved ones. in some pictures people went to great (and strange) lengths to make the dead person look alive still, using frames to stand them up and posing them. some photographers became very good at painting open eyes on closed eye lids to achieve this.

These photos are called "memento mori" - the victorians loved these kind of things, sometimes the eyelids of the deceased were painted to make it look like their eyes were open. Also family members would sometimes prop the body up in a normal postion to have their photo took . I kinda like these kind of photos, but yeah the baby ones are sad.
