It must have been humiliating for this Russian soldier to get "punked out" by this German citizen. Unfortunately , after this photo was taken she probably "lost" much more than just the bike.

We were stationed with the army in a small village town in Germany in the 1980s. The village was once the location of a secret Nazi Airfield. After the war the Airfield and Base became a U.S. Army Installation. While we were there my mother became very friendly with several different local families that had all lived within the area during and after the war. Occasionally they would tell us stories of things that happened during the war years. One older lady that became so close to our family that we thought of her as our adopted grandmother when we were children shared with My mother many sad stories of things she and her family lived through. She said that after the war that she had heard that this family member or that family had been raped or sodomized (sometimes in front of their entire families) by the Russians. Apparently it became one of those things you quickly did not talk about after it had happened. And was kind of a shameful family secret nobody mentioned for many years. One of her Aunts was dragged into a room and raped repeatedly, as her entire family was forced to stand in the hallway and listen, a line of Russians waiting for their turn at the door. A few years later the Aunt committed suicide. When the Americans gained control of the Village and Base her parents often had a hard time even getting food for the family so they would often go without or have very little to stretch between the children. Sometimes when things were really rough or there was just no money for food she would sneak off and meet American soldiers who would be nice to her and give her food while she was "with" them. She said that usually they would give her around 5 Marks and a chocolate bar in return. When they were done she would sit some where by herself and enjoy her chocolate before going home and giving the money to her mother who never questioned her on how she got it. Occasionally she would take the money she earned and go buy bread to bring home. She said she always felt very important on the walk home carrying the bread. She was 12-13 years old at the time.

Thank you for sharing this personal experience. Sometimes we forget(or at least I do) how lucky we were to have been raised in the United States.

They soaked her bra with oil and set it on fire, and while she screamed, a thin iron rod was shoved into her vagina… until it came out her navel.

My dads friend was in'Nam and they were by a river. They would shoot the Vietnamese as they tried to take supplies up the river and apparently it was pretty common to et to the women before "they got cold." Barff.
