It’s called quality of life at this point not about the way he “looks.” They want to make the face functional again. Eat, shallow, chew, smell, etc.

The injury is from the Gallipoli Campaign. His name was Mustafa İpar. He was a lieutenant. Prof. Jacques Joseph did the surgery. "Lieutenant Mustafa İpar was struck in the face by a shell fired from a British ship, losing an eye, his entire nose, his cheeks, his entire upper jaw, half of his tongue, his entire upper palate, and a large portion of his lower jaw. Despite this severe damage, he clung to life and was taken to Germany in 1918, where he underwent a surgical procedure challenging even by modern medicine, giving him a new face.
