UN Assembly Grants Palestine New Status

Palestinians win de facto UN recognition of sovereign state.
The 193-nation UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly approved a resolution to upgrade the Palestinian Authority's observer status at the United Nations from "entity" to "non-member state," implicitly recognising a Palestinian state.

In spite of 41 abstentions and 9 votes against the proposal, 138 states, including New Zealand, have backed Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas's bid for non-member observer status, despite fierce opposition from Israel and the United States.

Abbas called today's vote the "last chance" for a two-state Israel-Palestine solution.

"Sixty-five years ago on this day, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 181, which partitioned the land of historic Palestine into two states and became the birth certificate for Israel," Abbas told the assembly after receiving a standing ovation.

"The General Assembly is called upon today to issue a birth certificate of the reality of the State of Palestine," he said.

The move will lift the Palestinian Authority's UN observer status from "entity" to "non-member state," like the Vatican.

However, Israel, the United States and a handful of other members have voted against what they see as a largely symbolic and counterproductive move by the Palestinians, which takes place on the anniversary of the assembly's adoption of resolution 181 on the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states.

Soon after the vote, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticised the outcome, calling it an "unfortunate and counterproductive" move that places more obstacles in the path to peace.

"We have been clear that only through direct negotiations between the parties can the Palestinians and Israelis achieve the peace they both deserve: two states for two people with a sovereign, viable independent Palestine living side by side in peace and security with a Jewish and democratic Israel," Clinton said in a speech in Washington on foreign policy trends.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is in New York, but did not address the assembly. Israeli UN Ambassador Ron Prosor spoke after Abbas, reiterating the Jewish state's desire for peace with Palestinians, but opposing the resolution.

"It doesn't enhance peace," Prosor said ahead of the vote on the resolution. "It pushes it backwards."

"No decision by the UN can break the 4000-year-old bond between the people of Israel and the land of Israel," he said.

Granting Palestinians the title of "non-member observer state" falls short of full UN membership - something the Palestinians failed to achieve last year.

But it would allow them access to the International Criminal Court and other international bodies, should they choose to join them.

"The ICC issue is what the Israelis are really worried about," a UN official said on condition of anonymity. "They know this whole process isn't really symbolic, except for that."

A poor substitute

Foreign Minister Murray McCully announced this morning that New Zealand would vote in favour of the resolution.

However, he said that the UN resolution would be "a poor substitute for direct negotiations between the two parties".

He added that the primary reason for voting in favour of the resolution is that it reflects the long-standing policy of the New Zealand Government.

"New Zealand is a long-standing supporter of the two state solution. We believe that Israel and a Palestinian state should exist side by side, each respecting the other's right to peace. And we believe that they should arrive at that conclusion through direct talks.

"We remain frustrated that two leaders who live half an hour up the road from each other cannot meet to resolve these matters directly," McCully said.

Israel's ambassador in Wellington, Shemi Tzur, said in a statement he regretted New Zealand's vote, given what he understood as the country's long-term commitment to the principle of direct negotiations as the only way to reach durable peace in the region.

The resolution comes shortly after an eight-day Israeli assault on Gaza, an apparent response to stepped-up rocket fire into Israel.

While McCully said that the vote for resolution reflected the Government's commitment to the two state solution.

"We have discussed the proposed text of the resolution with Palestinian representatives over recent weeks and they have delivered a resolution that is moderate, constructive, and reflects our commitment to a two-state solution.

However, he also added that he has little hope that the proposed resolution will make inroads into the crisis.

"The New Zealand Government is under no illusions as to the utility of a UN resolution," said McCully.

"It will solve nothing. But in the absence of the direct talks we have called for, we will deal with the UN resolution on its merits. That means we will vote in favour of the resolution before the General Assembly this morning."

Big mistake.

These people will never stop their nonsense.

They are a contagion that need to be contained.

West Bank Fakestinians are really just Jordanian Arabs. Back to Jordan.

Gaza Fakestinians are really just Egyptian Arabs. Back to Egypt.

Problem solved.

Israel is just fine. It's the most functional country in the region.

The 'sh*t hole' factor you see present in Israel is 100% from the Arab/Moo Slums pretending to be mythical Fakestinians.

Get the Arab/Moo Slum trouble makers out of Israel and you would see a virtual 'paradise' which is what the Arab/Moo Slums know and fear.

The Arab/Moo Slums already have 99.9% of the land mass in the Middle East. They don't need any more. They have trashed the lands that they stole anyway. (Yes. The Moo Slums slaughtered their way across the Middle East and stole the land the currently occupy. They are occupiers and usurpers.)

If the Arab/Moo Slum psychos left Israel alone, you wouldn't hear a peep from Israel.

The problems in:

Egypt - Arab/Moo Slums
Iran - Arab/Moo Slums
Iraq - Arab/Moo Slums
Yemen - Arab/Moo Slums
UAE - Arab/Moo Slums
Jordan - Arab/Moo Slums
Syria - Arab/Moo Slums
Tunisia - Arab/Moo Slums
Libya - Arab/Moo Slums
Mauritania - Arab/Moo Slums
Saudi Arabia - Arab/Moo Slums
Gaza/West Bank - Arab/Moo Slums
Porkistan - Arab/Moo Slums
Afghanistan - Arab/Moo Slums
Philippines - Arab/Moo Slums
Thailand - Arab/Moo Slums
Chad - Arab/Moo Slums
Somalia - Arab/Moo Slums
Chechnya - Arab/Moo Slums
Russia - Arab/Moo Slums
Ethiopia - Arab/Moo Slums
China - Arab/Moo Slums
England - Arab/Moo Slums
France - Arab/Moo Slums
Germany - Arab/Moo Slums
The Caucasus - Arab/Moo Slums

and on and on and on. Nothing whatsoever to do with Israel.

It's just a land grab by Arab/Moo Slums. They already have 99.9% of the land and turned those areas into cesspools.

They want to do the same to Israel.

Jordanian Arabs back to Jordan. Egytpian Arabs back to Egypt.

Both Jordan and Egypt have huge amounts of land that could accomodate their fellow Arab/Moo Slums. Way, way, way more than enough.

Re: UN Assembly Grants Palestine New Status

The Jewish state of Israel has a 4,500 year history which is 1,000's of years longer than the Moo Slum Dark Ages Death CULT has been cursing this earth.

The Moo Slums are out for global domination as their whole FAKE 'religion' (really just a militant political ideology) is based on this.

They have a Fakestine type BS story for Hezbanon (formerly Lebanon), Israel, Cypress, Spain, Africa, India, China, Europe, etc.

And guess what? The story always comes out that everything belongs to the Moo Slums. The entire earth and all it's people.

Hezbanon is in the final stages of being swallowed up by the occupier and usurper Moo Slums and they are doing what they can to take over the 4,500 year old nation of Israel.

It's a land grab con game by sociopaths. The entire Moo Slum history shows nothing but this type of criminal behavior which they 'justify' by saying they have the blessing of Olive Snackbar.

Err you mean apart from the fact that the country Israel was created in 1948 by Western powers. Pretty much out of guilt because they didnt stop the holocaust.
