It's funny speaking to some immigrants about that. They like our universities but are appalled at the quality of education in our high schools.

No. We just don't have a homogenous culture, and haven't had one for quote some time. We have many cultures and many heritages, although we do share commonalities. The difference is that we remember what it was like when there was the idea of homogenous cultural superiority... it wasn't exactly a good thing. Still waiting for anyone to even define what constitutes a uniquely American culture. |
