Re: Two Young Boys Strangled by Python That Did NOT Escape From Pet Store

Quote:
The boys were found dead Monday morning in an apartment above the pet store Reptile Ocean after an African rock python escaped from its enclosure, went through the ventilation system and into the living room where the boys were sleeping.
Quote:
The children had been at a petting zoo the night before and snake expert, Bry Loyst, who is assisting police with the investigation, believes the snake may have been attracted by the scent of the animals.
Quote:
An autopsy report released Wednesday confirmed the two died from asphyxiation.
Quote:
Reportedly the snake, which was 4.3 metres long and weighed 45 kgs, had escaped before, and was kept mere metres away from where the boys slept that night. Questions are being asked about the owner's caution.
Quote:
There are pictures that have surfaced of the two deceased boys -- Noah and Connor Barthe -- playing around with snakes, albeit smaller, less threatening ones.

The snake did escape its enclosure and through the ventilation system and into the living room which was only meters. So many bs stories going around.

Re: Two Young Boys Strangled by Python That Did NOT Escape From Pet Store

I read another article recently that said constrictors kill by a violent rise in blood pressure leading to cardiac arrest. The article was trying to lay the blame on carbon monoxide poisoning. It kinda makes sense. It seems abnormal for a snake to make two kills without attempting to feed. I have a corn snake and used to have a ball python. However, I'm not a doctor, just givin my two cents. ::throws pennies::

That may happen secondary to the asphyxiation that occurs. They constrict, and as each breath of the prey is released, the muscles of the snakes body constricts, crushing the body & reducing the amount of air intake until the victim expires.
I was constricted about the neck for the first time today by my very gentle red tail boa 5'. Xeno simply did not want to go back into his tank. He squeezed hard enough to really get my attention. I lost vision so I laid down on my bed with him before I passed out, he relaxed, & I was able to uncoil him. A child would wake up panicked & struggling. It would be over very quickly.

I hope the police don't just take this at face value. Strangled to me implies a human act (around the neck) rather than the crushing constricting a snake would do. I am probably wrong but just because a snake has escaped from a reptile shop (an establishment that should have high security viv locks etc) I don't think they should jump to conclusions about the manner of death of these 2 poor kiddies.
It seems there would be crushing injuries, patekial emoraging, inner mouth bruising, hematomas, etc, as well as lung injuries.
