R. Kelly's 13-year-old son, Jay, who was born biologically female, announced this week on social media that he's transgender and wants to be male.

According to the Independent, the teenager also spoke about his somewhat strained relationship with his father.

During a question-and-answer session on his Ask.fm account, Jay said that he has identified as a boy since he was "six or seven" and shared his experiences with other users.

Jay said he has already informed his mother, Andrea Kelly -- but not his father -- about being transgender and that she has given him her full support.

"I came out through a text to my mum and then I told her when I got more comfortable," he said. "I told her because I knew she would love me no matter what, she has not once judged me in life. She always told me that she loved me and to be who I truly am."

Examiner.com reports that Jay wants to have gender reassignment surgery. The website also suggests that R. Kelly isn't exactly aware of his son's situation.

It means that "he" is actually a she. They're using the phrase "biologically female" in accordance with political correctness.

Personally, I think it's bullshit that the article refers to her in the masculine sense. Regardless of how she identifies with being male, gender is primarily physiological and thus the pronoun "he" should not be applied until after gender reassignment surgery has been completed.

What I also think is bullshit is that this world -- or at least its media industry -- is so lacking in good sense as to assume that a child who is still in the throes of puberty actually knows enough about themselves and the world around them to determine whether or not they're actually transgender.

I think it's really none of our business what's in someone's pants. If they want to be called male or female or whatever, that's their business. Also, not all transgender people have surgery. They just dress and live the gender they feel they should be.

As far as whether or not Jay knows what he wants at such an early age, who knows? Maybe he will change his mind, which is part of why there should be no rush to have surgery. Maybe he won't change his mind though. Were you ever unsure if you were a male when you were younger? When you were going through puberty? I never considered myself to not be female. But some people do struggle with the gender they were born in. It's not skin off my back if someone wants to dress for or be a different gender than they were born.
