You know what when I was a kid I thought I wanted to be a boy. Once I got boobs and all I was so happy to be female. And I am still very happy being female.
So many kids wannta be something they aren't (just like people want what they can't have). She will most likely grow up and want to be a female after all.
I have no idea how I would handle this is I were the parent. But I am glad my mother didn't "let me" be a boy. I would have been so pissed once I grew up.

It's not as if they have started the kid on hormones or had surgery or anything. At that age, what does it even mean to be a boy or girl? When I was a kid I played with She-Rah and He-Man, Barbies and Transformers. I never thought of them as girl or boy toys. I just liked the cartoons and the toys.

It's cool they're very accepting and all but I think they're jumping the gun by about 10+ years by just assuming their little one is transgender so early >_> The kid wont even really have a sexual preference until much later.

Kids not a transgender, they're a cross dresser. Transgender will be decided later, after the kid works some stuff out through puberty.

I just have a hard time agreeing with this. Yes, they aren't pushing hormones, but it just sounds as if they don't understand at that age kids say and want to do/be everything. I wanted to be a boy, too. I quit wearing skirts, dresses, anything with flowers, butterflies, Popples, and cut my hair very short. My parents let me go so far, but at that age you can't decide what you are or aren't for the rest of your life. Does the little girl/boy have time to change? Absolutely, but why put a name to it and tag it at this age?

Lots of kids do things for attention, regardless of negative or positive attention. Kids are far more intelligent than most give them credit for and this girl could have very well figured out that what got her the most attention was wanting to be a boy. Just think when she goes into puberty and figures out she really wants to be a girl and then has to tell the world that, too. It'll be a bit more to take at that age than at 5.

Some parents are really good about pushing certain ideas whether they know it or not. Just like little boys playing guns doesn't mean they'll grow up to be murderers, most of us girls who wanted to be boys so badly when we were younger, grow up to be females.

Why do you have to define it at five?

And what happens when the kid grows up and wants to be the original sex that they were and then commits suicide? Wait it out until teenage years, then decide.

Exactly what I was going to say!! Way too early to decide such things. So many things can happen between now and when this child becomes an adult.

Well what I did with each child was just point out which parts they had, and they did the rest. And they just chose accordingly. The boys showed strong desires for boy things and visa versa. Guess they were lucky. Some people aren't.
