Re: Oscars Being Too White
Yes. They are trying to mindf*ck and BULLY - typical low life Ghetto Trash Black ******* behavior - things into going the way they want. Just because you want to be #1 in some field, doesn't mean that you will be. It has nothing to do with color. No one controls Life. But blax will very often scream "Racism!" as a very transparent and clumsy attempt to manipulate a situation. |

Re: Oscars Being Too White
Most of the time he is very careful about the wording, I imagine he has been warned several times in the past, thus mods can't really do anything but keep a eye on it. If he crosses the line and is reported (or mods spot it first) then they would do something. On topic I have a family member who votes in ifta and the baftas so I get to see the voting proccess and get to see film/shows long before they are on general release. I was surprised the kids in 'beasts of a nation' we're not nominated as they were exceptional. IMO the lack of nomination is due to the timing and not racism. For example in the baftas DVDs are sent out for the first round of voting in September (3 rounds of voting) some of the films are a good 6months (at least) away from General release. Beast of a nation had already been out a long time. I thought the studio should have put it up for last years award season. (Perhaps it was shunned due to net flicks) Regarding will smith, the Nigerian accent is the most distinctive (along with the saffas) on the whole continent and he butchered it. He is a scientolgists millionaire who is just not that good a actor unless he's playing himself |

Re: Oscars Being Too White
Beasts of No Nation was probably snubbed because it was put out by Netflix, not because the actors were black. I don't think Idris Elba will lose any sleep over not getting nominated for a some lame award.

Re: Oscars Being Too White
I agree 100% but I think the person who lost out was the main kid. I thought elba was good but the stand out of the cast was the two kids. I can see it getting snubbed for the Netflix thing in terms of major awards but I honestly think had it been released later that kid would have been up a award

Re: Oscars Being Too White
"Beasts of No Nation" was well done - in some ways - in some places - but it was not as quality a production as the movies that made it in the nominations. It was not a Steven Spielberg, James Cameron or Michael Bay level of production. The story was good enough that it 'could' have been made to that level, but the fact remains that it was 'not' made to that level. I did enjoy it and would recommend it as a Netflix playin'-in-the-background-while-you-are-doing-something-else kind of movie. |
