Re: Military Jet Crashes In Libyan City of Tobruk *video*
Technical failure is thought to be the cause, it was a Mig-21, introduced in 1959: it's strange that it was still able to fly, not that it crashed. This one crashed (killing three) during a memorial ceremony for ANOTHER pilot who died when his plane crashed, killing him, a couple of days before. Black boxes will likely answer what really happened. Operation Dignity jet crashes during Tobruk flyover |

Don't know that very plane, i meant that Mig21 was introduced in 1959 (first flight in 1956): basically, it's based on a 60 years old technology. Actually, while obsolete, is not that bad plane, russian still have 800 Mig 21 fishbed: however, many of the planes belonging to Free Libyan Air Force have some serious maintenance issues, i would never fly with any of them.

Re: Military Jet Crashes In Libyan City of Tobruk *video*
Sorry, I meant the pilot being in his 50's and still flying for the military. I don't know exactly how things work in Libya, but here he'd have been phased out in his mid to late 30's. (I'm sure there are some pilots older than that, but I haven't met more than one.) Add age into mechanical-old plane issues and you have a problem. Vision changes, weight, reaction time. |
