No, it's the death-in-jail penalty. In or out of jail, you will die of old age unless something else kills you first.

Whatever permanently and efficiently removes a threat, works for me.

Re: Marvin Wilson Execution: Texas Puts Man With 61 IQ To Death

Agree with all the posters (except the original post) that there is nothing wrong with putting this man to sleep. And that's basically what they did. He shouldn't be allowed to get away with it or spend the rest of his life in prison at tax payers expense just because he has a low IQ.
It's not a popular topic, but I DO believe in the death penalty. Always have and always will for the right crimes. And yes someone 'innocent' might get killed, but that's happening every day to people who are murdered. What about THOSE innocent people?
You guys are sick.

The guy has the mental capacity of a 5 year old, how can you hold someone to the same standard that we hold a normal adult to? If the alternative to Capital Punishment is life in prison then how is he a threat to anybody?
Capital Punishment doesn't bring back anybody, it doesn't act as a deterrent, its just another murder.

Re: Marvin Wilson Execution: Texas Puts Man With 61 IQ To Death

Harsh but true and reasonable. And why all the semi-ceremonial executions, anyway? Why not just walk into the cell and put a bullet in them?
Because we try to hold ourselves to a higher standard than that.
Although we put ourselves in the company of some not so great places by continuing to kill handicapped people.

Re: Marvin Wilson Execution: Texas Puts Man With 61 IQ To Death

Oh and for those who really believe that spending years in prison is all about getting raped.

You're watching too many movies. It's not like THAT.
