He must have placed the shell on his head and light it off, I can't imagine him dying if he placed the shell in the mortar and then the mortar on top of his head. This is assuming he was using consumer shells, limited to 1.75" diameter. I just got done with my fireworks show this weekend so I'm curious how someone can be so fucking stupid.
