think it was 1.2.
great achievement though
It was 1.6 billion to send Rosetta into space much of the technology used then is now in almost every recently manufactured cars....

Re: LIVE Right Now: Comet Landing LIVE

takes 30 min for the info to reach earth.. we might be on the comet now... waiting for confirmation
It was 23 min some weeks ago, and is now 24-25 min

Philea sends its data to Rosetta, and I don't know what delay that has. I know it is periodically.

Re: LIVE Right Now: Comet Landing LIVE

its pretty amazing .. time/space.. a single photon from the sun takes 8 min to reach earth however it took millions of years the that same photon to escape from the core of the sun

Re: LIVE Right Now: Comet Landing LIVE

Well with 3d printers building houses and shit like thay. I would imagine they'd send a team of robots to various places like the moon or other moons or Mars anywhere with stable solid ground and start building. Hell if the machines were made right they could use available material on landing site to "print" buildings that can then be pressurized if needed. Once people get there. Set up observatories and whatnot.
Yeah the funding is hard to get. But everyone on the planet has nothing to do with the outside world to care enough. But once the planet is on its last leg for life support you better believe everyone will be screaming to find a way out.

Well with 3d printers building
themselves..... (evil laughter) 3d printers could build themselves and make a 3d mars from 3d printing materials..... I LOVE IT....lol.

ya the future is exciting! for now i just want to print a new water pump for my ford

Re: LIVE Right Now: Comet Landing LIVE

This is pretty cool. Wonder how many Billions this cost..
a tiny fraction of the military budget you can be sure.... no profit in space yet...

Re: LIVE Right Now: Comet Landing LIVE

note a photon travels at speed of light, which is constant, and is emitted from an atom the surface of the sun
but the E for that might have come from the inner
and E = mc² that means E can become m so what travels (near or) at light speed becomes super heavy
m can become E, which is proved by nuclear fission

Description

Rosetta’s lander Philae is safely on the surface of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, as these first two CIVA images confirm. One of the lander’s three feet can be seen in the foreground. The image is a two-image mosaic. The full panoramic from CIVA will be delivered in this afternoon’s press briefing at 13:00 GMT/14:00 CET.

Re: LIVE Right Now: Comet Landing LIVE

Boffins are still analysing exactly how the lander managed its epic touchdown yesterday when its harpoons failed to fire, but it now looks like the craft bounced twice before it finally finished landing.

Data has in from Philae instruments including MUPUS, ROMAP, ROLIS, COSAC, CONSERT and Ptolemy, which makes it look like Philae landed three times, first making a huge two hour bounce and then briefly bouncing again for another seven minutes.

The low gravity on Comet 67P, which turns Philae from a fridge-weight to lighter than a feather, is what caused the first long bounce.

Just how or why the lander stopped bouncing, whether its ice-screw legs have drilled into the surface and other questions remain to be answered, but the first image from the CIVA instrument shows Philae sitting on the space-rock.

Re: LIVE Right Now: Comet Landing LIVE

I read the same article - they may not have a horizon shot - bummer.

Still a fantastic feat.

Unless it's all staged. Where's the conspiracy page!
