Landscaper kills 9 ducklings with lawnmower.

A landscaper was arrested Wednesday after he
massacred nine baby Muscovy ducks by running them over with a lawnmower,
officials said, all while a homeowner watched in horror. A man and a child had just got done feeding
the ducks and were watching them from inside their Wellington Florida home,
when landscaper Jason Falbo ran them over, backed up, and ran them over again.

Palm Beach
County Animal Care and Control officers arrested Falbo, 24, on
nine counts of animal cruelty.

Officers were called to a house in the 2700
block of Shaughnessy Drive in Wellington at
about 2:30 p.m. on May 2. The homeowner said he and the child had fed a mother
duck and her 11 ducklings and walked inside. A woman in the house joined them,
and the trio looked out the sliding glass door as the ducks ate near a tree.

A landscaper, later identified as Falbo, was
also at the house moving the lawn on a riding mower, according to the arrest
report. The homeowner told officers that, at first, Falbo was going back and
forth on the lawn in a regular pattern. But shortly after the ducks started
feeding, Falbo darted toward the ducks with the mower blades up.

Right before he got to the animals, the man
told police, Falbo put the blades down on the mower and forged ahead. He ran
over the ducklings.

Watching in horror, the man recalled seeing
duckling body parts flying out from underneath the mower. Immediately, the
woman ran out into the yard and screamed at the landscaper to stop.

Falbo put the mower in reverse, aimed toward
the ducklings still living, and killed all but four of them, the homeowner told
officers.

The ducks that were alive darted toward the
lake with their mother, according to the arrest report, but two of the babies
were injured and drowned. Only two of the 11 ducklings survived.

By that time, the man said he too had come
outside and started yelling at the landscaper.

"You could see the baby ducks in your
path, and you couldn't wait for them a second or two?" The man recalled
yelling, according to the arrest report.

The man then said Falbo smiled, refused to
turn off his mower and said the ducklings were in his way. Falbo was ordered
off the property and the man called police.

According to the arrest report, the woman's
story corroborated the man's version of events. When they arrived, officers
said they found little duck bodies strewn in the yard.

Officers said the nine baby ducks lost their
lives "cruelly and viciously with extreme intent."

Falbo is being held at the Palm Beach
County Jail on $27,000 bail.
