Yes ma'am. My wife went to the same school, so I have a witness. When my wife was in elementary school, she got into a fight with a girl and both of them were locked in to a small room and told to 'work it out'.   Let me put it to you like this: growing up where we did and going to the school we went to it was not a shock for either of us when (over the years of being there) many of our friends killed themselves. If you had any sort of mental struggle or emotional issues, that place only exacerbated them. I know most will say 'that's how it is at all high schools' but that's not true....most high schools don't have to deal with lawsuits from their janitorial staff because the staff was forced to clean blood and brains from the foyer after another student killed themselves.  |

I see where you're coming from, and there is merit in that. The idea of "inclusion" is basically to integrate these people into society. It's to make them be looked at as people, rather than put them in some kind of institution and forget about them. People forget that these are people too  they should be given the opportunity to live the most productive life they can. They still have the right to an education.

'scuse me, genius. If she is American, she has absolutely helped pay for this child's education, in the form of property taxes. That's how shit works.  An autistic or otherwise handicapped child is entitled to an education just like any other American child, public education, private education, or any other way. That is also how shit works. It's called being human and having some goddamm compassion. It's also the law.

What I don't get is why the school found it easier and a better idea to have this overly expensive cage built and installed than to say they can't handle him?

Before that clusterf*ck could have ever come about, the parents should have made sure that the school was qualified to handle their kid. That's like the parents knowing that their kid needs intricate neurosurgery and long term critical care and then... sending to a basic first aid station. The parents absolutely knew better than to do that. Very irresponsible parents. They just wanted a place to dump their kid who was their responsibility. |
