A chromogenic color print of the Gursky photo below, entitled Rhein II, sold for a whopping $4.3 million at Christie’s in New York this week, the AP reports, making it the most expensive photo ever sold at auction.

Gursky digitally erased buildings on the far side of the river from his picture.

This manipulation enhances the image visually, giving it more formal coherence.

Rather than the sense of a specific place, the picture conveys an almost Platonic ideal of a body of water traversing as landscape.

lot of money for this. maybe in 10 years it's worth double the money so a good investment.
