Re: Explosion in Manhattan 9/17/16

I do actually, but obviously you don't care, unless it's a statistic. Then you're all ears
I'm not going to say you're lying, because I don't know....... But the odds are around one in 45 million

Statistics are everything. It's how we decide what's a threat and what's not. It makes no sense to allocate resources, time and effort into something that doesn't represent a level of threat worthy of.
So how do you determine what's worthy?

Smoking kills millions every year..... Tobacco kills millions every year...... Alcohol kills millions every year....... Eating shit kills millions every year.
How much do we spend on those?

Context - What are the goals of the terrorist? What is the definition of terrorism?
To make you think you're in danger when you're not...... To make you worry, spend money you don't have on security, and alter your lifestyle. It's psychological warfare.

Politicians have jumped on terrorism. Promising to keep you safe has become an extremely dependable way to win votes. You're a young guy, you grew up post 9/11....... This is the only world you've ever known...... Which is both sad and fucked up.

The statistics are everything. If you really think you're going to be the one in 45 million, you're feeding into the goals of terrorism.
Don't give them that.

Statistics are bullshit. And actually I grew up pre-911(Born 1987). way to make assumptions. How do you know I'm a young guy? You're even more clueless than I thought. I don't follow the words of the politician, that's your role. You're the summer "soldier" the sunshine 'patriot'

Oklahoma City.

The second biggest act of terrorism on US soil, and the biggest until 9/11.

Then there's the whole issue of right wing domestic terrorism, such as the Oklahoma City bombing, which had killed more people since 9/11 up until the Orlando shooting.

One act? Fuck dude, there's been too many to count.

What about the statistic is bullshit?

I'm not insulting you in any way. If you want to talk, fine, but please leave the insults in the cooler if you can't have a rational discussion.

Thanks.

Re: Explosion in Manhattan 9/17/16

Terror attacks imo have a unique way of crippling or impacting our entire "system" like a virus. In practical terms, what that means is while small in number statistically, tho increasing, of people killed from it, it changes behaviour. It does make you think twice about doing x,y,z because people do die. Do politics play on it? Yes, and should, it is getting worse. I know you hate the reset button analogy rob, but I don't see improvement on any front with any concern, vet help, health care, crime, immigration, racial tensions, education, or terrorism. In fact I see a downward spiral and not holding our government accountable on both sides is what is bringing us to this point. More of same policies, again my opinion, will be very dangerous. We must try something different.

Re: Explosion in Manhattan 9/17/16

Smoking, drinking and such in a nutshell, are choices we make. May not start as addiction but for many sure can end up that way and agree, it is a huge problem. Money and the loss of it is what drives change. Assume we still make a bundle from that stuff.

Re: Explosion in Manhattan 9/17/16

Context.

About 35 thousand die in traffic accidents every year.

Half a million die from cancer..... Another half million die from heart disease...... Between these two, that's half of all deaths every year.
How many of those deaths are related to lifestyle choices? Preventable?

But, for whatever reasons, the single digits related to terrorism get everyone in a panic.

Psychological warfare. And if you're scared, you're losing.
