Re: Corpse in Public Pool Goes Unnoticed for 2 Days in Water
My son is not allowed to swim in public pools at all. A situation sort of like this happened in my town last summer, except the victim was a 7 year old boy my son actually went to school with. The pool was crowded and the boy hit his head or something. The teenage lifeguard paid no attention to a body floating and another swimmer was the one that noticed it and attempted to perform life saving skills(but not the lifeguard!!!). The kid died. |

Mass. Pool Inspectors Face Hearing Over Dead Body Updated: Sunday, 10 Jul 2011, 3:03 PM CDT Published : Sunday, 10 Jul 2011, 3:03 PM CDT (NewsCore) - FALL RIVER, Mass. -- Two Massachusetts health inspectors who approved a murky state-run swimming pool that hid a woman's decomposing body will face a disciplinary hearing this week, The Boston Globe reported Sunday. Marie Joseph, 36, apparently drowned in the Fall River, Mass., pool on June 26, but her body was not discovered until two days later. The two inspectors visited the pool one day after her death and noted an expired permit. An inspector returned on June 28, but only remarked that the water appeared "cloudy." Joseph's body was discovered by a group of teenagers who scaled the fence after the pool closed that night. The hearing, scheduled for Tuesday, is meant to determine if the inspectors followed procedure when they allowed the pool to remain open, Fall River mayor William Flanagan told the Globe. "It's a fact-finding hearing to see if they violated any of their responsibilities," Flanagan told the newspaper. "As the mayor of this city, it is vital for me to ensure the public safety inspectors are fulfilling the duties assigned to them." The inspectors are currently on paid administrative leave and may face termination, Flanagan said. A broader investigation into how inspectors, lifeguards and swimmers all failed to spot the body is still ongoing, Catherine Williams, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Conservation and Recreation, told the paper. The Fall River pool is closed indefinitely, The Globe reported. Read more: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpps/new...#ixzz1RoPw7ZmX |
