The only way the US will engage in any sort of direct action with Russia is if they were to start attacking north america.
Canada is part of North America..... NATO member as well..... And guess where the USA gets the majority of its oil?

Not to mention a treaty Clinton signed few decades back, wouldn't go over well for us to ignore the issue. China, north korea, japan, being the ones that would go apeshit thinking the US won't honor treaties when the time come to need too.

Re: Canada to Russia: ‘We Will Defend Our Sovereignty in the Arctic’

I fully appreciate Canada and it's contributions in men and material to the wars it's been allied with the USA. I don't doubt the quality of it's fighting men or citizens.

I've always enjoyed my visits there and been treated very well, I'm just poking fun at Canada challenging the Russian Navy, because as we all have seen in the Ukraine Putin is not a reasonable man and seems bent on a path of confrontation with the west.

It would be refreshing to hear the EU challenge him over the Ukraine, now that would be note worthy.

As it is, the USA is the free worlds guardian & leader due to our size and wealth, which makes our every move questioned and disparaged, damned if we do, damned if we don't, thrust into a no win situation often with met with derision on both sides.

Well I have family in Cali, Florida and New York. The culture is not that much different. Canadians may be more polite - eg, Please, Thank you, Pardon me? (as opposed to huh?), etc., and much less forthright in their day to day dealings.

Re: Canada to Russia: ‘We Will Defend Our Sovereignty in the Arctic’

In all seriousness, I think I speak for most Americans when I say that we generally think that Canada is quite awesome. But with Canada being part of the North American continent, any efforts by Russia to chip away at Canada's Arctic territory would have the side-effect of inching Russian elements that much closer to the U.S. This creates a common interest for both of our countries.

I can't help but wonder if perhaps this is all just political maneuvering by Putin in an effort to increase his popularity with his own people. The only problem is that Russians today appear to be just as fiercely nationalistic as Germans were just prior to WWII, and history shows how far that went.

Re: Canada to Russia: ‘We Will Defend Our Sovereignty in the Arctic’

I'm impressed

I've been wondering when the Europeans were going to do something on their own, in their own backyard.

Britain and Canada are in, where's France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Germany etc?

Notice the smaller countries are standing up, they know they are next for Putin.

Granted, 10,000 troops isn't much, but you can build an army around a well trained, well led division:

http://www.worldbulletin.net/todays-...reaction-force

Seven NATO allies to create new rapid reaction force

Seven NATO allies plan to create a new rapid reaction force of at least 10,000 soldiers as part of plans to boost NATO defences in response to Russia's intervention in Ukraine, the Financial Times reported on Friday.

The aim is to create a division-sized joint expeditionary force for rapid deployment and regular exercises. The British-led force would include air and naval units as well as ground troops, the newspaper said.

Countries involved include Denmark, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Norway and the Netherlands. Canada has also expressed an interest in taking part, it said.

British Prime Minister David Cameron is expected to announce the creation of the force next week, coinciding with the Sept. 4-5 NATO summit in Wales.

Since Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea region in March, NATO members have taken a number of short-term steps to reinforce the security of allies in eastern Europe that are worried by Russia's new assertiveness.

You know shit is bad when peaceful countries like Canada start making threats.

The storm of world wide war is brewing fast.
