Brittany Maynard, Right-to-die Advocate, Ends Her Life

Brittany Maynard, the 29-year-old face of the controversial right-to-death movement, has died. She captivated millions via social media with her public decision to end her life.

Sean Crowley, spokesman for the non-profit organization Compassion & Choices, confirmed Maynard's death Sunday evening.

"She died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 1 in her Portland home, surrounded by family and friends," according to a statement from Compassion & Choices.

The statement said Maynard suffered "increasingly frequent and longer seizures, severe head and neck pain, and stroke-like symptoms." She chose to take the "aid-in-dying medication she received months ago."

Her death brings a new element to the movement in the age of social media because the conversation has included younger people.

"She's changed the debate by changing the audience of the debate," Abraham Schwab, an associate professor of philosophy at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, told the Associated Press earlier.

One commenter on Twitter posted, "RIP #BrittanyMaynard. To die with dignity still eludes many. May you find peace." Another had mixed feelings. "Brain cancer is a horrific way to die but, being raised traditional Catholic, suicide still a no-no," a commenter wrote.

"....but being raised catholic, suicide is still a no-no."

A "no-no"!?! She was suffering to the degree that she chose to end her life....literally experiencing hell on earth.....and you're worried about punishment from a god you can't prove exists!? "a no-no".....disgusting.

Re: Brittany Maynard, Right-to-die Advocate, Ends Her Life

So, basically, according to the traditional catholic dude even if God denied her the right to live (because that is NOT life), humans had to deny her the right to die in order to stop experiencing hell on heart. Because my life doesn't belong to me, it belongs to God. So basically, not only my life sucks and it's incredibly painful, but it's not even mine!
Puah, i can relate to this shit, having the Vatican spreading its bullshit on 24/7/365 right here.
The woman did the right thing as whatever there is in the afterlife, it's a better place than this shithole (especially in those incredibly painful conditions) for sure: God or not god, she finally put the word "end" to her pain, only a mentally challenged God would disagree with this.

fuck the vatican. I would vote this as an right to all mankind.

I would even consider going to my garage and start the plans to build a DIY mobile assisted suicide unit.

Enter the chamber, drop some money, get the cocktail....few mins later the unit poops your ashes out in a nice little baggy.

Re: Brittany Maynard, Right-to-die Advocate, Ends Her Life

If someone wants to take their life they are eventually going to, be it from emotional or physical pain. To try and stop forbid them is ridiculous. Causing more problems like inefficient hasty attempts.

Re: Brittany Maynard, Right-to-die Advocate, Ends Her Life

How very sad but good for her. Going out on her own terms is the only thing she still had control over. And of course you have a stupid bible-thumper saying suicide is a "no-no".
