Re: Arizona Inmate Dies 2 Hours After Execution Began

I guess this is where I become uncivilized. If this person did that to my family member, I don't care how civilized I am, I would want that piece of shit to suffer as much as my innocent family member did.
That's not being uncivilized: that's being human.

sorry... but state sponsored revenge killings is wrong. i hope we see an end to this shit soon. the state should not be in the business of killing for revenge.

I wouldn't call it revenge. I would call it justified punishment. You take a life, in my opinion, you've given up rights to your life.

Sounds like fair justice to me.

it's revenge killing, pure and simple. punishment would be a lifetime locked in a cage. if given the choice, i would personally choose death... so why give a horrible criminal such an easy way out?

not to mention the cost... it costs considerably more to kill a person than to house them..

the state should never, ever be given the power to take a life as punishment. many innocent people have been killed unjustly because of the death penalty:

The rate of erroneous conviction of innocent criminal defendants is often described as not merely unknown but unknowable. We use survival analysis to model this effect, and estimate that if all death-sentenced defendants remained under sentence of death indefinitely at least 4.1% would be exonerated. We conclude that this is a conservative estimate of the proportion of false conviction among death sentences in the United States.
(source)

as long as the state conducts revenge killings, innocent people will be executed wrongly. you can attempt to correct a wrongful sentence but you cannot correct a wrongful execution.

as for countries that use the death penalty:

Current use
Note: Italics indicate countries where capital punishment has not been used in the last ten years or that have a moratorium in effect.

Afghanistan Bahamas Bangladesh Belarus Botswana China Cuba Egypt Guatemala India Indonesia Iran Iraq Japan North Korea South Korea Lebanon Malaysia Pakistan Russia Saudi Arabia Singapore Somalia Sri Lanka Suriname Syria Taiwan Tajikistan Tonga United Arab Emirates United States Vietnam Yemen
....we will and should be judged by the company we keep in this case.

To think murderers get a painless death after doing what they've done just goes to show you how fucked up our prisons really are.

Fine.

YOU live with them...in isolation from the rest of society.

At YOUR expense.

i do. there is a moratorium on the death sentence in my state, so they live in prison and the state pays for it with my taxes. nobody dies, no innocent people accidentally get executed, no revenge killings by the state. it's nice.

The death penalty is justified in certain circumstances but there is a moral obligation to see it carried out as quickly as possible. I feel for the victims and their families but society must show that it is better than a mindless mob of apes.

So by your logic, if I'm a P.o.S with 0 life then I should kill someone to get housed by tax payers... that sounds right.
