800 children divided by 35 years = 22.85 per year
So equals out to about 23 children a year approximately
Could 23 children die from child birth, deformities, ill health and disease a year?

Due only to massive medical, nutritional and social neglect. That's called "letting 'em rot". Literally.

There had better be some compensation to relatives for that at least. Something.

Has someone checked up another source? The most frequent deaths took place in a time period of three years. Can't be bothered to look up how many, but the average during those years, in, and including all the others, amounted to two (2) per week. Estimation is malnourishment were one of the factors.
Which of course can lead to diminished immune system and therefore illness, but none the less.

And even more relevant if you think people of the cloth are by nature more "nice"

Well, yes, but this was an orphanage.
The surrounding community thought the kids grew up and flew away, but no.

There were a lot of misconducting going on in that place.
