I remember all through grade school that whenever there was a fight, all the children would gather in a circle around the combatants and loudly chant in perfect unison: "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!" bloodthirsty little bastards that we were. I guess you never outgrow that or maybe we get slightly subtle as adults but inside we're still yelling "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!" There's a great moment in John Ford's THE SEARCHERS where Jeffrey Hunter gets into a brutal fight with Ken Curtis and everyone watching, including the old women (shot in close-up), are smiling as broadly as can be and widening their eyes excitedly. A wonderful observation on human nature  |
