Ships Graveyard on Nargin Island (Boyuk Zirya), Caspian Sea, Baku, Azerbaijan

Nargin (Boyuk Zirya, Azeri: Nargin (Böyük Zir?)) is the largest island within the Baku Bay. It is uninhabited, the lighthouse was erected in 1814. The island is covered with remains of buildings, more than 20 ships rust on its north coast.

You'd think that they'd either sell them for scrap or sink them off the coast and create artificial reefs.

The Soviets drained huge amounts of the water for growing cotton, and as they did, the water got saltier, and saltier until useless. Not to mention the shore receded kilometres in places.

They really did fuck it up.
